Want to save money and cut your water and heating bills near Birmingham, AL?
Save water, electricity and money by trading your old shower head for a new WaterSense shower head and you may notice little, if any, change in the flow of water in the shower. The new shower head will pump out two gallons of water per minute, unlike the traditional shower head, which generates 2.5 gallons. Those half gallons add up, both for water use and power to heat it.
The EPA says the average family could save 2,900 gallons per year by installing WaterSense labeled shower heads. Because these water savings mean less use of water heaters, they also save energy. In fact, the average family could save more than 370 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power a house for 13 days!
That’s almost half a month’s utility bill.
On a national scale, if every home in the United States installed WaterSense labeled showerheads, consumers could save more than $2.2 billion in water utility bills and more than 260 billion gallons of water annually. “In addition, we could avoid about $2.6 billion in energy costs for heating water,” the EPA said.
The EPA says WaterSense shower heads do the job as well as traditional shower heads. The federal agency worked with businesses and individuals—including consumers who tested various shower heads—to develop criteria for water coverage and spray intensity. All products bearing the WaterSense label—including water–efficient shower heads—must be independently certified to ensure they meet EPA water efficiency and performance criteria.
